To meet each person where they are and journey with them for a little while.
The Emmaus Road story (Luke 24:13-35) has long been a favorite of mine. Two people walking along, trying to process their grief and dismay. Life hadn’t seemed to turn out as they had hoped, and they were deeply challenged to make sense of things. Jesus encounters them where they are.
I love that, in this story, there are two people walking along, and they are joined by Jesus. To me, that is what spiritual direction is all about. Two people get together and try to make sense of where God is in the midst of life. Jesus joins them, speaking to them both, guiding them to a new understanding of things.
As a spiritual director, I strive to meet each person where they are on the road of life and journey with them for a while, as long as is needed. I think we all crave sanctuary along the way, a place to lay down the burdens of everyday life and be able to simply speak our heart’s deepest desires.
God is always at work within, but it can be so challenging to see that sometimes. A spiritual director can offer much-needed perspective. I can think of so many times when I have spoken to my own director about feeling that God is absent. And so many times, just in speaking of it to another person, I begin to see things differently; I begin to see how God is not only present but powerfully at work.
This is what I strive to offer: a sacred time and space to speak of what is in your heart. To provide a place where you can begin to see how God is at work within your own life. To journey with you for a little while and relish Jesus’ presence with us both along the way.
My training and formation are steeped in the Ignatian tradition. Ignatian spirituality is rooted in Scripture and is focused on coming to know the person of Jesus Christ more intimately, to love him more deeply, and follow him with abandon. I also have experience with the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. I am a graduate of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University.

Whether you’re looking for a director for the first time or you’ve been at this for a while, I would love to meet with you and explore whether we might be a good fit to work together. Contact me today to set up a free exploratory meeting!
